They are dark coloured basalt, rich in iron and magnesium but poor in silica. They flow out of volcanic vent quietly and are not very explosive. Due to their high fluidity, they flow readily with a speed of 10 to 30 miles per hour. They affect extensive areas, spreading out as thin sheets over great distances before they solidify.
The China's Chang'e-5 (CE5) basalt samples were collected far from the Apollo and Luna landing sites, and dated at about 2.0 billion years ago (Ga), approximately 1 Ga younger than previously reported lunar basalts. ... and OH distribution maps indicate that some CE5 apatite grains are chemically zoned, with increasing Cl abundances towards the ...
The generated BS distribution map of China was significantly superior to the current major soil maps in terms of mapping resolution and fineness. The hot spots of BS distribution were mainly located in the Songnen Plain, Sanjiang Plain, the eastern side of the Greater Khingan Mountains and the western side of Changbai Mountains in NE, the ...
Geological map of Hainan Island with sampling site marked by filled asterisk (revised from the 1:2 500 000 geological map of China). The sampled weathering profile of late Pleistocene basalt (E110°33′54.43″, N19°50′11.46″, Table 1 and filled asterisk in Fig. 1 ) is situated southeast of Haikou City, the capital of Hainan Province ...

distribution and thickness of mare basalts. Preliminary investigations have shown that it should be possible to detect cryptomaria using estimates of the density gra-dient in the upper crust. Future work in this direction will involve detailed comparisons of our density gradi-ent maps with maps of mare basalts and proposed cryptomaria [7].
The length of basalt fiber produced by the company is usually set to a multiple of 3 mm. Hence, the frequency distribution of the skeleton gap axis length in the range of 0 ∼ 3 mm, 3 ∼ 6 mm and 6 ∼ 9 mm can be used to characterize the frequency distribution of basalt fibers with 3 mm, 6 mm and 9 mm, respectively.

Simulated elemental spatial distribution maps for Chinese Japonica rice (Figure 3 and Figure S2) show there are significant differences between the two major rice cultivation zones. Figure S3 shows a boxplot of simulated elemental content for Chinese rice from different regions in 2017. The mean simulated values of K, Ca, Cu, Fe, and Ni in rice ...
Herein, we report some major and trace elements of a weathering profile developed on Neogene basalt in northeast Hainan Island, South China. Because basalts are very sensitive to chemical weathering (Berner and Berner, 1997), and chemical weathering is significantly intensified by the tropical climate, most of the weathering profiles in this region have …

Summary Surface basalt is well developed in an oil depression in Hainan Island, China, which seriously affects seismic acquisition and processing. Due to eroding and weathering, surface basalt is difficult to be mapped in detail with traditional surface investigation methods. This paper models the magnetic characteristics of surface basalt, and presents a …
Geochemical maps constructed by cumulative frequency method had intuitively shown the spatial distribution of Cr in China's mainland (Fig. 8). However, under the influence of lithologic variations in different tectonic units, large-scale positive anomalies were presented in some regions with high Cr background values such as the outcropped ...

This is consistent with the high tungsten distribution in the South China orogenic belt and lower tungsten content in the Yangtze Craton, as shown in the tungsten distribution map of southern China (Fig. 5). This also suggests that the high W content in sedimentary rocks partially contribute to the W anomaly in the catchment sediments.

Several United States Geological Survey (USGS) and Chinese soil and basalt standard references including GSS-5, GSS-7 and GXR-6 (soil), and BHVO-2 and BCR-2 (basalt) were repeatedly measured alongside the samples to monitor the ...
The Mesozoic rift basins of northeast China are characterized by a significant proportion of basalt due to the progressive emplacement of basalt lava flows. The objective of this study was to construct vesicle distribution models of the basalt lava flow units, including conceptual geological models and thickness models, to understand the architecture of the …

The orange ellipse in Fig. 12 (c) is the same connected area as the left part, which is identified as basalt from the field points and the geological map; this also shows the same zonal distribution as the basalt trend in the study area.
